This was the second official UDS release. This release extended the time period covered by the UDS from 1946-2008. These scores incorporated updates through 2008 to four of the ten original measures—Freedom House (2010), Polity IV (Marshall et al. 2010), PACL (Cheibub et al. 2010), and VanHanen (2009)—that feature in the analysis that we report in our 2010 article. In addition, the release corrected a few minor errors and added two recently developed measures of democracy—Mainwaring et al. (2008) and Munck (2009)—to our framework.
